Amanda Castro

2021 Tap Dance Project Choreographer

Born in Brooklyn and raised in New Haven, CT, Amanda Castro is a multidisciplinary artist with her artistry rooted in rhythm with her soul in tap. Castro is a graduate of California Institute of the Arts where she studied under Glen Eddy of Nederlands Dans Theatre and Andre Tyson from Ailey Company. Once a principal dancer of the renowned company, Urban Bush Women, touring theatres such as The Kennedy Center & The John Anson Ford Theatre, to starring in musical theatre productions of Singing In the Rain in the role of Kathy Seldon, Jared Grimes 42nd Street, “atomic” performances of Glimmerglass Festival’s West Side Story (NYT ‘18) and performing for over 100,000+ audience members in the role of Anita in West Side Story at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Amanda continues to pursue the journey of deepening her practice as a rhythmic storyteller and remaining a vessel for the stories that push humanity forward.
