Guggenheim Fellow Tommie-Waheed Evans’ work explores blackness, spirituality, queerness & liberation. His training began with Karen McDonald, later receiving an Ailey School fellowship, and an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. A former company member of Lula Washington Dance Theater, Complexions, and PHILADANCO, he’s created works for BalletX, Dallas Black, DCDC, and Ballet Memphis, among others. His awards include Resident Fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts, the Princess Grace Award in Choreography, and Joffrey Ballet Winning Works. He is a former Assistant Professor at UArts and an Artist in Residence at Philadanco.
After performing on Broadway in the Tony winning Fosse, Parker was associate for Broadway’s Finian’s Rainbow, A Tale of Two Cities, Follies (Pre-Broadway) and 5 Encores! (City Center). Choreographer: Oklahoma! 50th Anniversary (Arena Stage), Sondheim and Marsalis’ A Bed and a Chair (City Center Encores!); Ed Mirvish (Toronto), Arena Stage (18 productions), Kennedy Center, Washington National Opera, Omaha Symphony/NBC Holiday Televised Specials, Shaw Festival Canada, Lyrics and Lyricists 92nd St Y, York Theatre, Signature, Ogunquit, Buck’s County, The Rev, and The Fulton. Recent work: Light in the Piazza (City Center Encores!), West Side Story (The Muny), Fiddler On The Roof (Paper Mill Playhouse / The Muny), and Beautiful (Maine State & Fulton Theatre). Proud SDC and AEA Member. When Parker is not in rehearsals, he can be found gardening in the backyard with his wife Maria.
