Deborah & Charles Adelman

Honoree, The Dance Lab Honors 2025

Debbi and Charlie have spent their entire professional lives in New York City. Debbi  spent 40+ years in financial services, including commercial banking, real estate finance,  consumer banking and risk management. She held several senior management  positions over the years, retiring in 2014 as a Managing Director and Senior Risk  Manager at Citigroup. Charlie practiced tax law for 40 years and was a partner of  Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft, retiring in 2013.  

Debbi and Charlie received their undergraduate and graduate degrees from Cornell  University. Debbi is a member of the President’s Council of Cornell Women, where she  served as Chair; the College of Human Ecology Dean’s Leadership Advisory Council,  where she also served as Chair; and the Cornell University Council, where she served  as Vice-Chair; and prior President of the Cornell Club of the Berkshires. She was  honored by Cornell to receive the President Frank H.T. Rhodes Exemplary Alumni  Service Award. Charlie serves on the Cornell Law School Dean’s Advisory Council and  previously served on the Dean’s Special Leadership Committee as a member and Chair  and on the Cornell University Council.  

Since retirement, Debbi and Charlie have been able to fully indulge their passion for  dance and music. As arts patrons, they have had the opportunity to support many arts  organizations over the years, especially dance companies and choreographers. Debbi  has frequently focused her attention on female choreographers, who often don’t receive  the level of resources they need to create new work. She currently serves as a Board  Member of Dance/NYC, as well as a Board Member and Treasurer of New Chamber  Ballet. Charlie was a Board Member and Chair of Morphoses, working with Lourdes  Lopez. He joined the Board of Miami City Ballet when Lourdes became Artistic Director  there, and also currently serves as a Board Member and Chair of The Joyce Theater Foundation as well as a member of the Committee for the Jerome Robbins  Dance Division of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.  

Debbi and Charlie have been able to travel extensively and enjoy attending  dance, music, and other arts performances.They consider it a privilege to have met so  many wonderfully talented creators of art, dance, and music. They live on the Upper  West Side and have two adult children, Mark and Karen, living in New York City.
