The Lab Cycle is our core program for dancemakers. This residency includes one week of free exploration time in expansive studio space with a company of professional dancers, a rehearsal director, digital assets, support from the DLNY staff and a salary so that choreographers can incubate new work without pressure to produce a finished product. This revolutionary new model provides a structured, professional environment that encourages experimentation, collaboration, and the risk taking needed for true creative discovery.
At DLNY, we do not dictate what you explore. No idea is off-limits (within reason) and the grant comes with “no strings attached”. Choreographers are also provided with a Rehearsal Director to oversee the daily workings of the room and relieve them of unnecessary administrative stresses.
Currently, DLNY operates 3 Lab Cycles per year - Spring (Feb/Mar), Summer(May/June), and Fall (Oct/Nov). Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. We invite choreographers of all backgrounds, ages, genders, races, abilities, and experience levels to apply. Please fill out the short form below.
